BP’s polished CEO loses some shine | Deepwater Horizon | Chron.com – Houston Chronicle
Tony Hayward is quite possibly the most selfish person on the face of this planet. In his own words:
“You know, I’d like my life back.”
Tell it to the families of the eleven workers who died during the explosion. Go ahead, tell it to them face-to-face.
Tell it to the thousands of fishermen, oil field workers, hotel workers, restaurant owners and other businesses closed down because of this catastrophe. Go ahead, tell it to them face-to-face.
Tell it to the franchise operators of BP gas stations, who have suddenly found themselves being boycotted all across the United States. Go ahead, tell it to them face-to-face.
Tell it to the marine life and wildlife of the coastal wetlands and beaches of the Gulf Coast. Go ahead, tell it to them face-to-face.
Tell it to the citizens of the United States as they watch in horror while their precious natural resources are destroyed for God-knows-how-long. Go ahead, tell it to them face-to-face.
Tell it to the entire human race as they wait to see what global impacts this man-made disaster will wreak on our planet over the long term. Go ahead, tell it to them face-to-face.
You, sir, are a prime example of what happens to people when their personal wealth and ambition far outweigh the good of society. You and your clique of the privileged few, at the expense of the rest of humanity and the creatures that share this planet with you, are good for one thing, and one thing only: to be set forth as an example of how not to treat others. You have bartered your humanity for money and power and influence and prestige. May God have mercy on you, and may the rest of us be reminded that our lives are meant for more than the flimsy trappings of wealth. Our stewardship of this planet includes our stewardship of one another, and it is up to us to remember that despite the actions and attitudes of people like Mr. Hayward.
He will come face to face with God one day, and once again I say: Go ahead, tell it to Him face-to-face.
